Divorce and Separation in North Carolina

There are a lot of things on the mind of each party involved in divorce and separation hearings. North Carolina is a no-fault state but they do take fault into account when ruling on other circumstances. Before filing for divorce in the state of North Carolina the couple must either be separated or living apart for a year. It is also a prerequisite that at least one party has lived in the state for at least six months. To be remarried the divorce must be finalized, however, the divorce can be finalized before support, custody, alimony and property have been decided on.
